Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) enormous size, congestion, and continuous activity can make traveling there feel daunting. I had the opportunity to see Terminal 5 up close during my most recent journey with Frontier Airlines LAX Terminal. I was interested to see how Frontier Airlines and Terminal 5 would compare because I travel frequently and value both comfort and affordable options.
Arrival and First Impressions
Since I’ve heard terrible tales of lengthy lineups and tumultuous check-ins, I got to LAX a little earlier than normal. Compared to previous LAX terminals I’ve seen, Terminal 5 felt surprisingly easier to navigate. I had little issue navigating to the Frontier check-in counters, despite the curbside area being packed with ride-share pickups and drop-offs.
Frontier’s designated counters were easily identifiable, and Terminal 5’s signage was unambiguous. As an extremely low-cost airline, Frontier encourages customers to check in using their mobile app or online. I still had to drop off my checked bag even though I had previously checked in through the app. Bag tag printing was possible at the self-service kiosks, and it was a rapid and effective procedure.
Security Process
Although it felt a little busy at times, Terminal 5’s security was comparatively effective. My participation in TSA PreCheck undoubtedly accelerated the process. I observed that the line was going at a moderate pace for people in regular lines, but it may get crowded during busy periods. I passed security in less than twenty minutes, and the TSA personnel were courteous.
Terminal Facilities and Atmosphere
I was pleasantly impressed by the mood when I entered the terminal. It is evident that Terminal 5 has undergone some improvements throughout the years. It seemed clean, light, and reasonably roomy. There were lots of places to sit close to the gates, and I was able to find a cozy place to unwind before boarding.
The fact that there were charging outlets all over the terminal was one feature I liked. This was a big help to me because I always had to recharge my electronics before a flight. Additionally, the complimentary Wi-Fi was dependable and quick enough for email checks, movie streaming, and browsing.
Boarding Experience
I was supposed to board my Frontier flight at Gate 54, which is conveniently near the major food court. Although the gate area was packed, there was some order because the boarding announcements were distinct and zoned.
I made sure to precisely follow Frontier’s personal item policy in order to avoid additional penalties because I am aware of the airline’s boarding and luggage restrictions. The employees at Frontier were strictly monitoring bag sizes, and I saw that a number of travelers were taken aback by the extra charges for large carry-ons or personal belongings. To avoid surprises at the gate, I would strongly urge any passengers traveling with Frontier to pay close attention to their baggage rules.
Onboard Experience
I was welcomed to a simple yet spotless cabin when I got on board. The Frontier seats were slimline, had little legroom, and did not recline, as was to be expected. This is tolerable for a short domestic flight, but I can’t picture feeling claustrophobic on one of their longer routes.
No free snacks or beverages were provided, nor were there any in-flight entertainment displays. You can buy everything onboard, even water, so it’s a good idea to pack a reusable water bottle and some snacks. The flight crew was kind and effective despite the basic service, and the trip left and arrived on schedule.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I had a better experience with Frontier Airlines at LAX than I had anticipated. The terminal itself contains all the essential amenities you need while waiting for a flight, is easy to use, and has many places to sit and dine. Although customers should be aware of Frontier’s stringent baggage regulations and limited onboard amenities, the check-in and boarding process was well-organized. For tourists searching for a low-cost option who are prepared to forgo some luxuries in return for cheaper tickets, I would suggest Frontier Airlines from LAX Terminal 5.
